John Cletus Miller, age 86 of 1998 Racine Avenue NE, Solon died Palm Sunday, April 13, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon with the Reverend David Wilkening officiating. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church where a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary will be said at 4pm and a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John’s memory. John Cletus Miller was born August 8, 1916, near Solon, the son of Raymond and Mae (Campion) Miller. John Graduated from high school in Solon. On October 25, 1941, he married Loretta Alice Wieser at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. In March of 1942, he was called to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II. Following service, he returned to the Solon area where he and his family have farmed for all his life.

He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Steinbrech Post No. 222 of the Solon American Legion and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

His family includes his wife, Loretta; son and his wife, Richard and Judy Miller of Solon, three grandchildren, Christopher J. Miller of Seward, NE, Terrance P. and his wife, Rhonda Miller of Solon, Jodi M. Palmer and her husband, Adam of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Cole and Brooke Miller; two brothers, Earl Miller of Solon, and Laurence and his wife, Mary Miller of Iowa City; and a niece and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert.
