Curtis Dobbs Black, 53 of Iowa City, Iowa passed away on May 29, 2010. The son of Henry and Frances Black, Curt was a live long resident of Iowa City. Curt graduated from Kirkwood Community College with an auto mechanic vocational degree. After working for the Volkswagen dealership for many years, he then owed and operated his own business, Curt Black Auto Repair. He later owned and managed Iowa City Roofing.
Besides being a hard working man, Curt had a passion for cars and motorcycles. He also enjoyed gardening, taking walks on the beach, and spending time with family and friends.
In October 2006, Curt married Lam T. Nguyen. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father: Henry Black, 5 brothers: James, Gary, Quentin, Kenneth and Edmund, and his second wife: Kimberly Nielsen (Black).
Survivors include, his wife: Lam Blacknguyen of Iowa City, 3 daughters: Carissa (Mitch) Engle of Alabama, Tanisha of Texas, and Mailam-Emily of Iowa City, 2 sons: Anthony (Jessica), and James, both of Iowa City, 6 grandchildren: Estella, Evelyn, Nubia, Leah, Alexandra, and Jackson.
His mother: Frances (Vernon) Wright, 2 brothers: Henry (Bonnie) and George, all of Illinois, and 3 sisters: Judy (John) Bogel of Oregon, Cheryl (Chris) Dyer of Pennsylvania, and Doralee (Jack) Erickson of Illinois.
His first wife: Linda (Caulkins) Black, 2 sister-in-laws: Rose Black and Debbie Black.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Curtis Black memorial fund. Online condolences may be sent through the web @www.gayandciha.com.
