Grace G. Kaeser, age 88 formerly of West Branch, and presently residing at Silvercrest Legacy Pointe Assisted Living in Iowa City, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following complications of congestive heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Fran Griffeth officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Grace’s memory. Grace Gertrude Smith was born January 30, 1915 in Volney, Iowa the daughter of Norman and Gertrude (Meyer) Smith. She married Lester J. Kaeser, April 15, 1933 in Elkader, Iowa. She has worked in a number of places, retiring from the University of Iowa, Burge Hall in food service.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch, Order of Eastern Star, West Branch Chapter, and Women of the Moose in Iowa City,a member of the Jonco Jill Club, and a number of card clubs including the Home Social Club and the Hilo Club. Grace’s family was important to her, playings cards, enjoying the outdoors, her church, all ways she enjoyed her life.

Her family includes two sons, Lester Kaeser Jr. of Iowa City, and Kent and his wife, Judy Kaeser of West Branch; daughter, Pamela Larson of Columbus Junction; seven grandchildren, Robin, Lori, William, Tracy, Scott, Becky, and Kurt; seven great-grandchildren, Erik, Jakob, Rachelle, Stacey, Christopher Michael, Nicole, and Madelyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lester on July 4, 1982; and eight brothers and sisters.
