Ernestine L. Hamdorf, 94, of North Liberty, died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Country View Care Center, North Liberty, following a short illness. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Iowa City, with the Rev. David Aanonson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Family committal services will be at Massilion Cemetery, Massilion, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 325 Mormon Trek Blvd., Iowa City, IA 52246; or Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade St., Iowa City, IA 52245.

Ernestine was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Minnie Holstein Reynolds. She was raised on a farm in the Calamus, area and was a graduate of Calamus High School. On Dec. 9, 1936, she married Roy Hamdorf in Davenport, Iowa.

From 1937 to 1964, Ernestine and Roy farmed in Massilion, Welton, Lost Nation and Clinton, where Roy died in 1964. Ernestine then worked at Hill’s Portrait Studio in Clinton, until February 1977, when she moved to Iowa City, and managed Golfview Apartments until 2002. In 2005, she moved to Country View in North Liberty.

Ernestine was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and participated in numerous church groups and activities. Her love was for her church, the outdoors and children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ernestine is survived by her son, Garry (Susann) Hamdorf of Iowa City, and their three children, Christopher (Amy) Hamdorf of Minneapolis, Minn., Jonathan (Angela) Hamdorf of Kansas City, Mo., and Jennifer (Jonas) Barnes of Beverly Hills, Calif.; great-grandchildren Grace and Madelyn; her brother, Merle (Evelyn) Reynolds of Maquoketa; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Reynolds of Sabula, Marcia Reynolds of Clinton, Arlene Ruchotzke of Lost Nation; and brothers-in-law, Robert (Doreen) Hamdorf of Lowden, and Virgil (Bonnie) Hamdorf of Massilion; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy in 1964; one son, Larry in 1957; and siblings, Cyril, Orville, DeEtta, Lewellen and Lowell.
