Maxine R. Flannery, 86, of rural Oxford died peacefully Thursday, April 29, 2010 at home.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Monday, May 3, 2010 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where the National Catholic Order of Foresters will recite a rosary at 4pm and a Parish Vigil will be held at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Maxine was born November 16, 1923 in Iowa City, the daughter of Ed and Rose Lear Quinlan. She was a 1942 graduate of Cosgrove High School. On April 12, 1944 Maxine married Robert Flannery at St. Peter’s Church.
Maxine and Robert have been lifelong Cosgrove area farmers. Maxine was a member of St. Peter’s Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the National Catholic Society of Foresters.
Maxine is survived by her loving husband, Robert and their two sons, Dale (Kay) Flannery of Iowa City and Dan Flannery of Oxford; two grandsons and six great grandchildren, Michael (Christy) Flannery of Raleigh, NC and their children Brendon, Aidan and Ashlyn and Patrick (Jessica) Flannery of Iowa City and their children Cory, Liam and Elleigh; three sisters-in-law. Marita McGurk Eicher and Pauline Flannery, both of Iowa City and Helen Halsch of Oxford.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
