Arlo W. Fry, 91, of Iowa City died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Mercy Hospice.
The family will greet friends after 9:30 am Saturday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11am. The Rev. John McKinstry will officiate.. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. A luncheon will follow at The Kirkwood Room, which is adjacent to the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospital Foundation for Mercy Hospice.
Arlo was born March 2, 1919 in near Frytown, the son of George and Nellie Crow Fry. On August 5, 1955 he married Helen Alexander in Rock Island, IL.
Arlo managed the APCO service station on Riverside Drive for 12 years and was later employed by the City of Iowa City Transit Department, where he was a driving instructor and bus driver. He served in the US Army and the US Air Force as a staff sergeant and paratrooper during World War II and the Korean War. Arlo and Helen have been longtime members of First Christian Church.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Rod Zeitler, Mercy Hospice and the staff of Iowa City Hospice for their care and support.
Arlo is survived by his wife Helen of Iowa City and their three children, Wayne (Vicky) Fry and their children Charlotte and Nicole, all of Washington, IA, Marjorie (Caz) Kotowski and her children Jana (Brent) Teale and John (Ashley) Lillis, all of Denver, CO, and Allen (Susan) Fry and his children Sara (Dave) Anderson and Christopher (Beth) Fry, all of Iowa City; one great grandson, Rowa Henry Anderson; Earl Fry and George Fry, both of Kalona, Delores Paulsen of Iowa City and Daryl Fry of Leesburg, FL.
Arlo was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Allene Millice and Vera Semler.
