Geraldine “Gerry” Rogers, age 96, formerly of Coralville, Catonsville, MD, and Columbia, MD, died Friday, March 21, 2003 at the Solon Nursing Care Center, Solon, Iowa of natural causes.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date at the care center in Solon. Gerry’s cremated remains will be intered beside her husband's at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Memorials may be given in her memory to the Solon United Methodist Church, Solon, IA 52333. Gerry was born March 18, 1907, in Urbana, Ohio, the daughter of Frank M. and Lucetta (Woolever) Shook. She attended George Washington University in Washington D.C. She married Frederick Helme Rogers on Thanksgiving Day 1928, in Catonsville, MD. Together they lived in Baltimore, Catonsville, and Columbia, MD, before moving to Coralville, IA in 1988, to be near their daughter, Ann. Her husband, Helme died in 1989. Gerry moved to the Solon Nursing Care Center in November of 1998.

She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, First United Methodist Church of Iowa City, United Methodist Women, American Contract Bridge League, and for many years a volunteer with the American Red Cross. In Baltimore she worked as head of the china and gift department of a large department store.

Her family includes four children: Fred and his wife, Neva Rogers of Vancouver, WA, John and his wife, Jo Ann Rogers of Coudersport, PA, David Rogers of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Ann and her husband, Jim Ridenour of Iowa City, IA; twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and one sister.
