Karen Josephine Fountain Rohret, 70, of Iowa City, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 at home surrounded by family.

Karen was born September 9, 1939 in Hills, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Francis (Draker) Fountain. Graduating from Iowa City High School, she married Dean Rohret on January 17, 1959 in Hills. Karen worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City for 22 years, retiring in 1999.

Karen was a past member of the Johnson County Board of Health, past regent of the Catholic Daughter’s of the Americas’s and past member of St. Patrick’s Altar & Rosary Society. She was devoted to St. Patrick’s Perpetual Adoration Chapel for over 10 years. Currently, she is a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Iowa City Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her husband Dean;
children, Robert (Donna) Rohret of Solon, Dori (Tim) Slager of Iowa City, Lori (Bruce) Hudson of Iowa City,
Rose (Pat Mahoney) Rohret of Oxford, Marianne (Greg) Couser of Rochester, Minnesota, Rick (Leslie) Rohret of Bettendorf, Iowa, Ron (Jennifer) Rohret of Solon; 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Worley of Iowa City, Norma (Leonard) Murphy of Hills and a brother Ralph (Pat) Fountain of Iowa City; brother in law, Gene Bell of Marion, Iowa and sister in law, Margaret (Kenny) Finken of Sioux City, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Karen was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Never meeting a stranger, she was a good friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother in law Jim Worley and a sister in law, Marilyn Bell.
