Elizabeth J. Banks, age 85 of 1060 Scott Park Drive, Iowa City died Monday, March 17, 2003, at her home of cancer.

Family services were held Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with the Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Public Services will be held at a later date in Canton, Ohio where she had lived the past fifty-five years before moving to Iowa City last March. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice or The Regina Foundation. Online condolences may be sent for Elizabeth’s family through our website @ www.gayandciha.com

Elizabeth Jane Banks was born June 22, 1917, in DeGraff, Ohio, the daughter of Daniel Evan and Bertha Jane (Cobb) Strayer. She graduated from high school in Ohio and attended both Ohio Weslyn and Ohio State University. On March 8, 1945, she married Robert Earl Banks in Columbus, Ohio. Her husband died March 16, 1963. She has lived in Canton, Ohio for many years where she was secretary of her church, Church of the Lakes Methodist Church for nearly twenty years. She was a member of the Sierra Club, and the YMCA in Canton. Elizabeth enjoyed her life, spending as much time with her family and friends, traveling across the United States and abroad, having just returned from Los Angeles last month, and always having a book by her side, a lifelong passion for reading.

Her family includes her daughter and son-in-law. Stephanie and Doug Menietti of Iowa City; her son, Nicholas J. Bank of Louisville, CO; four grandchildren, all of Iowa City, Matthew, Christina, John, and Robin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers,
