Edward E. Norris age 95 of Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Iowa City, formerly of 6 Triangle Place and Ecumenical Towers in Iowa City died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 of congestive heart failure at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, March 17, 2003 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove with Fr. Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm with a Rosary Service at 5:00 pm at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Edward was born on April 12, 1907, in Hardin Township rural Johnson County, Iowa the son of James Aloysius and California May (Everett) Norris. He attended Cosgrove Elementary School in Cosgrove, St Ambrose High School and St. Ambrose College in Davenport and the University of Iowa. At St. Ambrose he played football, basketball and baseball and was a violinist in the orchestra. At the University of Iowa he was on the Rosco Hall boxing team, his coach Rosco Hall was a former professional fighter. On August 21, 1946, he married Anne Marie Marsh in Brooklyn, New York.
Ed and his brother Tom farmed for three decades on a 180 acre farm near Cosgrove; in 1960 they sold the farm. Ed continued a budding career as an electrician. At various junctures he managed his own electrical busines for several years. He was a journeyman electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFLCIO local 405 Cedar Rapids. In his retirement years he honed his considerable skills as a mechanic and taught himself to arch weld. He continued to play the violin, study German and was avid angular well into his seventies. He will be remembered for his ability to manage his schedule, at one time having two girlfriends, neither knowing about the other.
His family includes a son, Jim Norris and his wife Tracy Cheah and former daughter in-law, Marilia Matos all of Silver Spring, Maryland; a daughter Madonna and husband Terrence Lechner of Grayslake, Illinois; two grandsons, John Patrick and Brian Patrick Norris, a granddaughter Theresa Lechnor, a nephew Lewis Eckermann, and two nieces Judy Eckermann and Jerry Downs

Ed was the last living member of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anne Marie on February 26, 1982 and six brothers and sisters. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Ed’s family and his services.
