IOWA CITY

Elizabeth “Bess” Barrie, 92, formerly of 400 S. Dubuque Street, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at the Iowa City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Iowa City. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friday, at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Elizabeth was born July 28, 1910, in York, Nebraska, the daughter of Thomas and Mary E. (Menlove) Curran. She was united in marriage to Edward E. Barrie on September 18, 1940, in Crete, Nebraska. She was employed at the York Blank Book Company as a bookbinder before becoming a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church since moving to Iowa City in 1991.

Elizabeth is survived by two sons and their wives, Edward T. and Carolyn Barrie of San Diego, California, and Robert J. and Judy Barrie of Iowa City, two grandchildren, Laura and Joel Barrie of San Diego, California, and one sister and her husband, Nelle C. Samson and her husband C.A., of Denver, Colorado.

Mrs. Barrie was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and four brothers.
