Helen M. Dolezal, 91, of Cartersville, Georgia and formerly of Iowa City & North Liberty, died Friday, January 2, 2004 at Cartersville Medical Center following a short illness.

Helen was born August 12, 1912 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph & Anna Jasa Rejman. She attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Schools in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1929. She worked for Bell Telephone as a telephone operator in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Iowa City. She was united in marriage to Joseph W. Dolezal September 7, 1935 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The couple lived in Iowa City and were married for 42 years. Helen moved to North Liberty in 1980 where she lived until August of 2003 when she moved to Cartersville, Georgia.

Helen was a member of St. Wenceslaus and St. Patrick Catholic Churches in Iowa City for many years. Helen’s interests were with her family and she had a great interest in antiques, her gardening and spending time with her son Bob and her husband Joe in the great outdoors in the North Corridor around the Coralville Resevoir. She was a terrific cook and pastry baker which she dearly loved. Helen & her husband spent many days antique hunting for items for her antique shop that she ran out of their home at 620 Ronalds Street in Iowa City. Helen’s interests in later years remained in her family and her love for antiques.

Helen is survived by her son Bob Dolezal & his wife Anne of Cartersville, Georgia; grandchildren, Sarah Gallagher & her husband Tad of Coralville, Iowa and Rachel Dolezal & fiancé Tim Leist, both of Iowa City; Step-grandchildren Megan McGurk of North Liberty and Brian McGurk of Iowa City; two great granddaughters, Katlyn and Ellen Gallagher of Coralville, Iowa and two nephews, Tom Rejman & Joe Rejman of St. Petersburg, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1977, an infant son, Joseph W. Dolezal Jr. in 1946, her parents and one brother Leon Rejman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Helen M. Dolezal Memorial Fund.
