Nadia Lois Clemence, 87, of 620 9th Ave., Coralville, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at the Solon Care Center following a brief illness.

Nadia was born January 14, 1918 in Crystal Lake, Iowa, the daughter of John and Gretta (Goepel) Paulson. She attended schools in Crystal Lake and graduated from the University of Iowa. Nadia married Arthur B. Clemence on December 19, 1942 in Iowa City. Arthur died on March 5, 1993.

Nadia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She help to found the Johnson County Historical Society and had served as its President. Nadia was instrumental in establishing the Coralville Public Library where she volunteered and was a member of the Friends of the Coralville Public Library.

Nadia enjoyed traveling and gardening, especially with the group called “Blooming Idiots” who volunteered to care for the Coralville City Gardens. She had been involved with the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts when her children were growing up.

Nadia is survived by her children Michael Clemence of Kalona, Linda Campion (Gerald) of Iowa City, Nancy Clemence (Dan Krehbiel) of Black River Falls, WI, Charles Clemence of La Crosse, WI and Cynthia Snyder (Reynolds) of Fishkill, NY; her grandchildren Kent, Jon and Bret Campion, David and Anna Snyder and Sara and Geoffrey Clemence, four great-grandchildren, and a sister Frances Faulstich of Hayward, WI.

Nadia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Vernon and a sister Fay.
