Frank L. “Mac” Taylor, 83, of Iowa City died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Frank was born June 1, 1922 in rural Johnson County, the son of Thomas L. and Margaret H. (Campbell) Taylor. Frank graduated from Iowa City High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, stationed in Pearl Harbor. He married Elizabeth Palmer on November 14, 1953, in Anamosa, Iowa. She died in 1996.

Frank was an over-the-road truck driver with Rock Island Motor Transit for 33 years. He retired from Crouse Cartage Company in 1987. He had over one million accident free miles. Frank was a bus driver for the Iowa City Community School District for seven years. He was a member of the VFW for 39 years. Later in life, his greatest joy was his grandchildren.

Frank is survived by two daughters: Christine Taylor (Jerry Swails) and Tracy Taylor McBurney (Mark), all of Iowa City, four grandchildren: Taylor, Elise, Elizabeth and Alan McBurney (Angela) and one great-grandchild, Zoe McBurney; sister Dorothy Hartzler (Herb) of Kalona, brother-in-law Gene Morse of Spokane, Washington, and several nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Earl and Ralph, and a sister-in-law, Pearl Morse.
