Austin (Earl) Goodenberger, 78, of Coralville died Thursday, July 28, 2005 in Coralville.

Earl was born January 23, 1927, the son of Austin and Eva (Butler) Goodenberger in Scottsbluff, NE. He spent most of his childhood in Clarion, Iowa Falls, and Hampton IA. After graduating from high school in 1945 he served in the Army Air Force in Germany toward the end of World War II. He worked for the R. M. Harrison Company of Hampton for 36 years. He was married October 10, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene, IA to Mildred Downing. In 1985 he moved to Iowa City and worked as a University of Iowa transportation driver until 1990. Earl and his wife enjoyed wintering in Florida and Arizona for several years.

Earl is survived by his wife Mildred; two daughters and two sons: Linda Pierce of Coralville, Dr. Ann Goodenberger (Dr. David Gauger) of Tacoma, WA, Dr. Michael Goodenberger (LeAnn) of Salem, OR and Daniel Goodenberger (Pati) of La Crescenta, CA. His seven grandchildren are Emily, Peter, Alex, Katelyn, Elena, Ana and Stefanie. A brother, Emery Goodenberger (Marian) of Panora, IA and brothers-in-law Roger Corbin (Jan) of Traer, IA and Robert Sandbo (Pat) of Bellevue, WA; sisters-in-law Evelyn Downing of Clear Lake, IA, Margaret Downing of Waverly, IA and Janet Downing of Greene, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty (Goodenberger) Corbin and Lois (Goodenberger) Sandbo.
