“Lee” Quigley, 78, of 717 Manor Drive died peacefully October 6, 2005 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his family.

Lee was born June 6, 1927 in Marshalltown, Iowa the son of Leeman L. and Emma (Polichek) Quigley. He married Helen Curley on June 14, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Marshalltown. Lee served in the Navy during WWII.

Lee attended Creighton University. He and his family then lived in Marshalltown for many years where he managed Crew Bowling Lanes. From 1964-66 they lived in Davenport where he owned Lee’s Lanes. In 1966 they moved to Iowa City where he managed Coral Lanes in Coralville. Lee worked at the UI for fifteen years in the dietary area and retired in 1989. For twenty five years he worked part time as a meat cutter at Iowa River Power Company, where he specialized in cutting the tenderloins and sirloin steaks. He had also worked part time at the Whiteway Market as a meat cutter.

Lee was a member of St. Thomas More Church, a lifetime member of the Coralville American Legion and a volunteer at Mercy Hospital.

Lee enjoyed golf, playing cribbage, gambling on the boats and bowling, where he had received first place in the division two team city tournament. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and a loyal Chicago Cubs fan. Lee was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lee is survived by his wife Helen, his children, D.J. Quigley of Iowa City; Linda (Tim) Sondgeroth of Iowa City and their children Travis (Tina), Tracy, Stacy (Joe) Fultz; Steve (Pam) Quigley of Iowa City and their children Lindsay, Heather, Ryan and Brooke; four great-grandchildren Joshua, Kaitlyn, Emma and Drew; his sister Ida (Mike) Messina of Tulsa, OK; and his sister-in-law Peg Quigley of Aurora, IL.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents and brother Joe.
