Henry Edgar Wirth, 97, of 701 Oaknoll Drive in Iowa City died on February, 16, 2006 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence of natural causes.

Mr. Wirth, son of Henry and Viola Doty Wirth, was born on June 4, 1908 in Bellingham, Washington. He married Naomi Thomas of Bellingham on August 27, 1931.

He received three degrees in chemistry, a B.S. in 1929, M.S. in 1931, and PH. D. in 1934, all from the University of Washington, Seattle. He taught at North Dakota Agricultural College (now North Dakota State University) in Fargo (1934-39), at Ohio State University in Columbus (1939-1950), and was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Syracuse University, NY (1950-1965).

He and his wife Naomi moved to Bellingham, Washington in 1973, where Naomi died December 12, 1996, after 65 years of marriage. He moved to Oaknoll Retirement Residence in March, 1997. He is survived by his second wife, Margaret Weiser Wirth, two sons, Thomas H. of Elizabeth, NJ, and John L. of Syracuse, NY and one daughter Kathryn Hansen, and her husband Peter Hansen of Iowa City; also one step-daughter Margaret E. Weiser and her husband and daughter of Olney, MD, and one step-son, Robert E. Weiser of Durango, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
