Eleanor A. Balgaard, 87 formerly of Iowa City, died Saturday March 25, 2006 at Silver Pines Nursing Home, Cedar Rapids, IA following a long illness.

Eleanor chose to donate her body to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Lensing Funeral & Cremation is handling the arrangements.

Eleanor was born on December 24, 1918 in Langdon, ND to J.A. and Caroline Iverson Balgaard. She attended and graduated from Langdon High School. She moved to Iowa City in 1963 where she was employed by the University of Iowa Resident Services as an account clerk. She retired in 1987 from the University. Eleanor was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City.

Eleanor volunteered during her retirement years for several Iowa City community organizations: Iowa City Public Library, local Red Cross Blood Bank, and committees for First United Methodist Church.

Eleanor is survived by her niece Donna Colbeck of Cedar Rapids, nephew Michael Fischer (Gail) of Minneapolis, MN, a brother Alen Balgaard (Rose) of Charles City, IA, and a sister Alyce Fischer of Red Wing, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Irene Eykyn.
