Daniel L. Molitor, 48, of Iowa City, died Saturday, June 24, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident near Dyersville Friday night when a deer hit him on County Road 47.

Known to his family and friends as Big Dan, he was born on August 9, 1957, in Waukon, Iowa, to Laverne Molitor and JoAnn Unkrich. He was married to Sheila McCarville on May 3, 1997, in Iowa City and resided at 954 Weeber St. in Iowa City.

Dan graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids in 1976. He was employed by Midwest Metal Products in Cedar Rapids as a brakepress operator for over 15 years. He was a certified Motorcycle Rider's Education Instructor and taught courses through Kirkwood Community College for the past 10 years.

Dan was most proud of his family and is survived by his daughter, Skyler, and his wife, Sheila McCarville; his father and stepmother, Laverne and Charlene Molitor; his mother and stepfather, JoAnn and Glen Unkrich;father-in-law, Joe McCarville of Fort Dodge, Iowa; three sisters, Luann Richmond of Cedar Rapids, Jody (Stu) Hohm of Springfield, Illinois and Cathy (Mark) Bordignon of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, David (Nicole) Unkrich of Prospect, Kentucky, and John (Beth) Molitor of San Antonio, Texas; brother-in-law, Ben McCarville of Fort Dodge, Iowa and nieces and nephews, Sarah Molitor, Ian Richmond, Meritt and Aly Stastny, Stuart and Spencer Hohm, Bryson and Kellen Unkrich, and Jacob and Emmalyse Bordignon.

Dan was a member of ABATE and Pyrotechnics Association of Iowa.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and all those he has touched over the years.
