Fred W. Parks, 87, of 328 N. Center Street died Monday, March 19, 2007 at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
Fred was born November 1, 1919 in Iowa City, the son of George and Della (Chensky) Parks. He served in the Army Air Force as a Sargent First Class during World War II and received the Bronze Star. Fred was united in marriage to Ella See on June 14, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ely.
Fred was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, wood worker, master welder and also enjoyed tinkering with cars.
He is survived by his wife Ella and their five children; Fred Parks of Knoxville, Iowa, Marilyn Coulter and her husband Tom of Iowa City, Iowa, Daryl Parks and his wife Gaylinn of Island Lake, Illinois, Craig Parks of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kirk Parks and his wife Nancy of Iowa City, Iowa. Six grandchildren; Christy Parks-DeGarcia and her husband Jaime of Fairfax, Virginia, Tom Parks and his wife Kristen of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Robert Box of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Debra Maier and her husband Clifton of Solon, Tom Coulter of Iowa City and Tim Parks and wife Kim of Round Lake, Illinois; nine great grandchildren, Jarrod, Gilbert, Dalton, Kaitlyn, Victoria, Samantha, Jessica, Alexandria and Stone.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his son Kent William, one great granddaughter Cassandra Lea Huff, and his brother George.
