William C. Harney, 79, of Oxford died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Windmill Manor
Care Center in Coralville following a lengthy illness.

William was born August 10, 1927 in Oxford, the son of William J. and Lula Francik
Harney. He was raised in Oxford, where he married Mary Louise McAreavy.
Mary Lou died September 1, 1965. William married Patricia Kouba on June 5, 1971 in Iowa City.

William was a lifelong Oxford area farmer, and had also been employed at the
Iowa City Liquor Store for ten years, retiring in 1988.

William was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. He enjoyed a variety of sports especially the Iowa Hawkeye’s. Bill cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

William is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children, Anne (Ray) Reynolds of Hiawatha and their children; Clint and Sean; Theresa (Kevin) Courtney of Iowa City and their children, Alex and Hailey; William (Jan) Harney of Oxford and their children; Sarah, Cathy and Valerie; Helen (Marty) Cropp of Urbandale, IA and their children Ambrose Ball-Harney, Audrey and Emma Cropp; Cynthia Harney of New Braunfels, TX. Step-Children; Tom Kouba and fiancée Billie Jo Burkett of Williamsburg, Becky (Randy) Schmidt of Williamsburg and their children Rose, Mary and Ray; Ed (Jill) Kouba and their children Angela and Kim, one great grandson
Anthony Peterson and many nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Robert Harney and his wife Rosalie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Oxford First Responders, St. Mary’s Church in Oxford or Amenity Hospice of Cedar Rapids.
