John C. Grosvenor, 50, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics following a long battle with cancer.

John was born June 10, 1957, the son of Gerald & Mildred (Osing) Grosvenor. He graduated from Iowa City West High in 1975.

On July 17, 1993 John married the love of his life Patricia Jane Gorvin Hesseltine. That’s when he inherited three sons, Harry Albert (Jessie) Hesseltine, Clinton James (Marque) Hesseltine and Christopher Allen (Ashley) Hesseltine all of Iowa City.

Later came Charles Lee,13, Calvin John 12, and Carl James 9. Then his beloved granddaughters Jillian Love Hesseltine 4, and Aireona Jane Hesseltine 3 ˝.

John loved to hunt, fish or “drown some worms” as he called it, ride his Harley, tease the younger members of his large extended family. But most of all John loved to spend time with Pat and the kids.

John had worked for West Branch School District, Component Homes, Lincoln Realty, and for himself Scrapping Metals. John was a well rounded handy man of a lot of trades.

John was the 11th child of Gerald and Mildred. He is survived by sisters and brothers, Virginia Rysdam (Jim) of Bloomfield, IA, Leonard of West Branch, IA, Pauline Osborne of Burlington, IA, Ruth Enlow of LaGrand, IA, Clifford (Connie) of Redwood, CA, Barbara Stellinga (Sherwin) of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kathy Grosvenor of Knoxville, IA, Ronda Davis of Marshalltown, IA. His in-laws; Pamela Escher (Phillip) of Wellman, IA, Susanna Breno (Joseph) of Iowa City, Cindy Gorvin(JamesII) of Solon,IA. Mic Gorvin of Iowa City, Barbara Irish-Gorvin (Maureen) of Iowa City, Paul Gorvin (Tami) of Coralville, Connie Mullinnix (Roger) of Iowa City, Donald Gorvin of Coralville. Plus too many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews to even count.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Paul, a sister Marsha, and and infant son from his first marriage John JR in 1978 at the age of four months. His father-in-law, James E. Gorvin, Mother-in-law, Anna Gorvin, brothers-in-law Bruce Gorvin, James E. Gorvin II, and sister-in-law, Paula Gorvin.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the John Grosvenor Memorial Fund – to benefit his children.
