Elizabeth Russell Bean, age 90, died on October 5, 2007, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born July 10, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Willie Lee Osborne Russell and Turner Christopher Russell. Elizabeth attended Vassar College, Northwestern University where she received her B.A., and graduate school at the University of Chicago. On October 15, 1938, she and Lyle H. Bean were married in Glencoe, Ill. They were married for 64 years.

Elizabeth and Lyle spent most of their lives in Kansas City. Elizabeth was an accountant with Farmland Industry for 20 years, retiring in 1963. She was an avid reader and gardener. She and Lyle enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, and attending poetry classes together. She was active in the Kansas City Vassar Alumni Association. After Lyle’s death in 2003, Elizabeth relocated to Iowa City, most recently living at Bickford Cottage.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Charles Coulter of Iowa City, her granddaughter Anne Elizabeth Coulter, and great grandson Noah Alejandro Carlos Coulter, of Evanston, Illinois.

There will be a family service and internment. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52240.
