Vernon F. Cole, 95, died Friday, October 12, 2007 at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville after a short illness.

Vernon was born May 10, 1912 to Vincent and Margaret Gillpatrick Cole on a farm in rural Johnson County. He married Margaret Pearl Harbit on August 11, 1941 in West Liberty.

Vernon was a life long farmer, farming the same farm on which he was born.

Vernon is survived by his daughter, Mary Cole of Swisher; three grandchildren, John Haman, Jolene Haman and Catherine Haman; three sisters, Marie Ruppert and Marcella Freund, both of Iowa City and Evelyna (Bill) Kron of Riverside; one brother-in-law, Daniel (Marina) Harbit; one sister-in-law, Anna Lukavsky of Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters, Margaret Dvorsky, Matilda Baker and Bertha Harms; one brother, Leslie Cole.
