Margaret Frances Kennedy, 90, of 2200 Oakdale Rd, Coralville, died Monday April 21, 2008 at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
Margaret was born on July 21, 1917 in Estherville, Iowa to Francis and Anna (Ford) Kennedy. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1934. She received her B.A. in Speech Pathology from the University of Iowa in 1938 and her masters in 1966. During World War II she served in England in the American Red Cross. Following the war, she was a speech therapist in the U. S. Army schools in Japan. Upon returning to the states, Margaret worked as a speech pathologist for the Des Moines public schools from 1950-1967, then moved to Hartford, CT where she was head of speech and hearing in the public schools from 1967-1982.
Margaret retired to Iowa City in 1982. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Altar & Rosary, Catholic Daughters (Des Moines), American Speech, Language and Hearing Association, Iowa Speech, Language and Hearing Association (Past President) and the Connecticut Speech, Language and Hearing Association.
Margaret is survived by her two sisters; Marian Vernon (Robert D.) of Okoboji, IA, Jean Brown (Dr. Robert C.) of Iowa City, IA, eighteen nieces & nephews and several great nieces/nephews and great-great nieces/nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother James E. Kennedy and a nephew Thomas James Kennedy.
The family would like to give special thanks to Lantern Park and Iowa City Hospice for the care and support of Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Iowa City Hospice.
