Donald C. Alberhasky, 97, formerly of Iowa City, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton.
Don was born April 1, 1911 in Iowa City, the son of Charles and Martha (Zaloudek) Alberhasky. He owned and operated businesses in Iowa City for many years, including Don’s Central Tap and the local Gamble’s Store. He married Helen Stockman in 1934 in Davenport, Iowa. Helen died in 1970. In 1976, Don married Olive Gaul in Iowa City. Olive died in 2002. He was a longtime member of both St. Mary’s Catholic Churches in Iowa City and Tipton.
The joys of Don’s life were simple but plentiful as he enjoyed the outdoors – fishing and mushrooming.
To top off the day, it was appropriate to have an occasional good t-bone steak or some catfish and a cold beer.
Survivors include his children, son Richard Alberhasky (Nancy) of Kansas City, Missouri and their sons, Quentin (Patti), Dwight and Travis; daughter Patricia Morris of Tipton, daughter Marilyn Coburn (Keith) of rural West Branch and their sons, Kelly (Becky) Coburn and children Satchel and Clayton and Dan Coburn (Mary Pat); brothers, Dr. Robert Alberhasky of Atlanta, John Alberhasky (Erma) of Iowa City, sister Virginia Cook of Tipton and brother James Alberhasky (Shirley) of Iowa City; step-son Jerold McCoy (Dritha) of Arizona, step-daughter Lois Wegner (Ron) of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Don was also preceded in death by a brother Bernard, and an infant sister, Ethel.
