J. Michael Mick Hogan

J. Michael Mick Hogan, 73, of 340th Street NE, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Iowa City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center from complications of cancer.

Mick was born August 10, 1934 in Iowa City, the son of James C. and Ruby (Michel) Hogan. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School and served in the United States Army -- stationed in France. Mick married Sheila Cunningham on September 1, 1958 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Knight's of Columbus, Marquette Council #842 in Iowa City.
Mick began his career working for Nagle Lumber Co. and then was a welder for Liberty Doors / Streb Construction for many years and had not yet retired.

Mick had many interests including building and woodworking. He built the house he lived in for 41 years and loved to create many wood treasures in his workshop. He also enjoyed maintaining his 5 acres of land which contained his large vegetable garden and many nut and fruit trees.
Mick was a very kind, patient, loving soul who loved a good laugh and enjoyed telling a good story any time he could.

Survivors included his children, Michael Hogan of Iowa City and Jennifer Griffin (Scott) and their children Lauren and Jeffrey, all of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; a brother, Patrick Hogan and a sister, Joan Washburn, both of Iowa City and several nieces and nephews.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sheila.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Catholic Community Foundation or Iowa City Hospice.
