Beatrice “ Betty” Marie (O’Rourke) Sheridan died peacefully Saturday, July 19, 2008 surrounded by her family at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Betty was born March 29, 1922 to James J. and Mary Ann (Taylor) O’Rourke in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was married to Edmund John Sheridan of Parnell, Iowa September 22, 1943 in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Betty and Ed moved to Iowa City in 1948. Betty was employed in the Home Economics department at the University of Iowa for fifteen years. She had also been employed by United Airlines.

Betty was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by her seven children and seven grandchildren, Dennis (Suzy) of Cedar Rapids and children Kary (Calvin) Daily and Sommer, Michael of Indianapolis, IN, Kathleen of Mound, MN, Susan (Craig) Byers of Cedar Rapids and their children, Heather and Lindsey, Maureen (Michael) Colbert of Tonka Bay, MN and their daughter Mackenzie, Eileen (Michael) Matson of O’Fallon, IL and their sons Michael and Conor, and Shawn of Denver, CO; two great grandchildren, Quinlan and Lochlan; brother-in-law Chuck Beaumont and former daughter-in-law, Bobbie; Nieces and nephews William Beaumont, Beth Tinderholt, Connie Driscoll, Tom Driscoll, Jo Anne Gronewald.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, her parents, sisters Bernadine Beaumont, Kathryn Driscoll, brothers-in-law Clyde Driscoll and Robert Sheridan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice
of Mercy, the St. Patrick’s Church Bldg. Fund or the Betty Sheridan Memorial Fund.
