LeRoy M. McCune, 59, of 1816 7th Avenue Ct. in Iowa City, died peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City with Father Bob Striegel officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

LeRoy was born on November 27, 1949 in Iowa City, the son of Max and Virginia Jaeger McCune. Following his high school graduation from City High, LeRoy proudly served in The United States Army during The Vietnam War. After returning from the service, he went on to graduate from Kirkwood Community College. In 1976, LeRoy was married to Anita Roe and they later divorced. For nearly 30 years, LeRoy worked as the manager for Eagle Discount Supermarket before retiring in 1995.

LeRoy is survived by his four children, Kara (Tom) Houser and their children Kaeden, Braxton and Riley all of North Liberty, Ryan McCune and Janene McCune both of Kansas City, MO and Bridget McCune of Iowa City; two brothers George (Mary Kay) McCune and their children Jennifer and Ashley and David (Bonnie) McCune and their children Mindy and Matt all of Iowa City. LeRoy is also survived by his significant other Mary Saylor and her son Brian and his daughter Makayla all of Iowa City. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents.
