Ruth Virginia Rodgers, 86, of 2801 Highway 6 East, died Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Mercy Hospital following a short illness. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 10 at First Mennonite Church in Iowa City. Private family burial will be held at the Lone Tree Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Mennonite Church or to the Mercy Hospital Foundation.

Ruth was born June 21, 1922 in Bevier, MO, the daughter of Joseph Warren and Myrtle Mullinex Green. She married Samuel C. Rodgers on July 28, 1940 in Palmyra, MO. Samuel died in 1993.

Ruth retired from The University of Iowa as Office Coordinator in the Pathology Department. She was a Sunday school teacher and taught Bible Studies from the age of sixteen.

Ruth is survived by her two daughters: Elnora (Stan) Smith of Iowa City and Esther Bickford of Midwest City, OK; four grandsons: Roger (Tammy) Swartzendruber of O’Fallon, MO, Lore (Shanna) Swartzendruber of Atkins, IA, Darin (Cindy) Bickford of Tacoma, WA and Derek Bickford of Midwest City, OK; five great-grandsons: Cayman Swartzendruber and Jeremy, Zackery, Dakota and Jordan Bickford, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother William Green, a sister Helen Deardeuff and a son-in-law Gaylen Bickford.
