Dr. Robert “Bob” C. Brown, 85, of 1 Oaknoll Court, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a sudden illness.

Robert was born November 23, 1922 in Portland, Oregon, the son of Virgil E. and Alice O’Connor Brown. He married Jean Kennedy on August 9, 1947 in Estherville, Iowa.

He graduated from Washington High School in Portland, Oregon and received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Portland in 1946. He spent one year at Catholic University of America in Washington DC. Robert received his MD from Loyola University School of Medicine in Chicago in 1948.
From 1950 until 1965, Robert was in family practice in Mason City, Iowa. Moving to Iowa City in 1965, he completed a residency in radiology and joined the University of Iowa Department of Radiology until his retirement in 1990, at which time he became Professor Emeritus of Radiology.

Robert joined the Air Force as First Lieutenant in October, 1950. He was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base where he trained to become a flight surgeon. After serving in active duty, he joined the Reserves, retiring in 1982 as a Colonel.

He was a member of many professional organizations including The American Medical Association, Iowa Medical Society, American Academy of General Practice, Johnson County Medical Society, Iowa Radiological Society, American College of Radiology and The Radiological Society of North America.

He was a member of St. Thomas More Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Jean of Iowa City; eight children, Anne O’Meara of Mankato, Minnesota; James and his wife Susan of Billings, Montana; Mary Frances and her husband Homer J. LeMar of El Paso, Texas; Jane Caton of Iowa City; Peg and her husband John de Salme of Solon; Thomas and his wife Jane of Englewood, Colorado;
Stephen and his wife Elizabeth of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and Michael and his wife Julie of St. Paul, Minnesota; thirty one grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
