George Henry Birrer, 98, of Hills, IA died Wednesday September 17, 2008 at Atrium Village.

George was born on April 9, 1910 on the family farm in Riverside, IA to Ignatius and Louisa (Mellecker) Birrer. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Hills. He was raised on a century farm south of Hills. George married Agnes Metz on August 7, 1948 in Bauer, IA. He was a lifelong farmer and breeder of Polled Hereford Cattle. He was the Liberty Township clerk for many years and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

George is survived by his wife of sixty years, Agnes, three children; Barbara Walters (John) of Berwyn, IL, Martin Birrer (Laurie) of Hills, IA, JoAnne Montgomery (William) of Riverside, IA, six grandchildren; Benjamin Walters, Daniel Walters, Jonathan Walters, Emily Birrer, Sarah Birrer, and Adam Montgomery.

George was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings; Adrian Birrer and Laura Birrer.

We will miss his booming voice, storytelling and sweet smile.
