POPE, GUSTAVUS, HAGEBERG, MASON, TROLLIET, BROWN, BELL, HANSEN, ROGERS

E. Lucile Pope passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City, Iowa.

The daughter of Oscar Gustavus and Emma Julia (Hageberg) Mason, Lucile was born at her parents' home north of Albion, Wisconsin on Friday, July 14, 1916 at 4:15 p.m. She was baptized on August 13, 1916. While growing up she attended Maple Grove School which was just north of the family farm. She was confirmed at Central Lutheran Church on May 11, 1930. Lucile graduated from Edgerton Child High School on June 7, 1934. She married Donald Pope at her parents' home on May 24, 1940. They lived in Edgerton for all of their married life. He owned the Donald Pope American Family Insurance Agency and she assisted him as a secretary for 28 years until retiring in 1978.

Lucile was very active in many facets of her church. She was a former member of its Friendship Guild, Altar Guild, Deborah Hope Circle and Central Lutheran Church Women. Lucile enjoyed being with her friends and neighbors in her various friendship clubs, including Friendly Sisters, Philomathian Club (Edgerton Federation of Women's Club),Canasta Club and the couples'card clubs that she and Donald joined.

During her life in Edgerton Lucile served on the Advisory Board of the Edgerton Senior Citizens. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was a Bloodmobile volunteer for many years. Lucile was also a member of the Ladies Auxilary of the V.F.W.

In 1999 she moved to Iowa City to live closer to her daughter. She lived at Bickford Cottage until March of 2005 when she moved to Oaknoll.

She found great joy in poetry, reading, and collecting new recipes. She was also very proud of her Norwegian heritage.

Lucile always displayed a hopeful outlook and affectionate interest in family, friends and caregivers. With compassion, insight and grace she courageously confronted life's challenges and joyfully savored life's gifts.

As her health declined, she deeply appreciated the care she was given. She and her family were blessed by the watchful attention that was given to her by Dr. Paul Mulhausen, UHIC.

Survivors include her children, Allen Pope of Edgerton and Donna Trolliet (Richard) of Iowa City, Iowa; her sister, Doris Brown of Edgerton; her grandchildren, Christen Bell (Paul) and their children Teagan and Emerie, Staci Hansen (Timothy) and their children Mitchell and Alec, Todd Trolliet and his daughter Raquel, Justin Pope (Sarah) and their son Nolan, Adam Pope, and Jared Trolliet (Stacia) and a cousin, Leora Rogers of Bradenton, Florida.

Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Milo Mason, a sister, Arlene Mason and her brother-in-law, Theodore Brown.

We will miss her inspiring presence in our lives, her love and devotion to her family and her generosity of spirit.
