Arny was born November 9, 1932 in Des Moines, the son of Harry and Bessie (Stein) Davidson. He was a graduate of Des Moines Roosevelt High School, where he was an all state basketball player. He received his BA in Political Science from the University of Iowa, and served in the US Air Force ROTC. On June 28, 1959 Arny married Brenna Persellin in Fargo, North Dakota.

Arny was the owner and president of Globe Financial Services in Iowa City from 1957 until 2001, at which time he retired. His mother founded Globe in Des Moines in 1914.

Arny was a member of Agudas Achim Congregation, served on the board of directors of Iowa Financial Services Assn. and the Hillel Advisory Board. He volunteered with the American Cancer Society, where he assisted in fundraising and was a mentor to other cancer patients.

Arny is survived by his wife, Brenna and their five children and eleven grandchildren,
Jim (Dena) Davidson of Calabasas, CA and their children Jacob, Alec and Dani; Linda Friedman of Tucson, AZ and her children Adam, Jared and Ellie; Deborah Collingwood of Tucson, AZ and her daughter Hannah, Scott (Jody) Davidson of Clearwater, FL and their children Alyssa and Zoe; and Rebecca (James) Sale of Pasadena, CA and their children Addison and Emma; his brother Marvin (Jan) of Santa Clara, CA; his sisters,
Florence (Jack) Brody of Omaha and Louise Weiss of Encinitas, CA; his brothers-in-law, Ed Persellin, Robert (Diane) Persellin and Donald (Sarah) Persellin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arny was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maxine Greenblatt.
