Robert James Chabal. Jr. passed away October 31, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with family and friends by his side after a courageous fight against lung cancer.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin or the Chabal Kids College Fund at Hills Bank in Coralville. Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.

Rob was born June 12, 1955 in Grundy Center, IA, the son of Robert Chabal and Doris (Hooper) Chabal. In June of 1982 he was married to Shari Hinkhouse at Danforth Chapel on the campus of The University of Iowa.

Rob graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1973, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Iowa Citizenship Award along with the John Danforth “I Dare You” Award. He attended The University of Iowa where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity and earned his BS in Pharmacy in 1979. Rob has been a pharmacist in Coralville since 1982 and for the last 15 years for Hy-Vee Pharmacy. Rob loved his patients and was a role model and mentor for many pharmacy students from The University of Iowa.

Rob was a member of the Oxford Methodist Church and the Canopy Masonic Lodge #290. He enjoyed running, playing guitar, working outside on his acreage near Oxford, snow skiing and walking the beaches of Maui. He absolutely loved being with his family and “hanging with” his two daughters.

Rob is survived by his loving wife and wonderful daughters Chloe and Grace who attend school at Clear Creek Amana. His parents of Grundy Center; his sister Jan Larson and her husband Jeff Larson of Austin, TX; nieces Hannah and Sonya, also of Austin; mother-in-law Faye Hinkhouse of Correctionville, IA; a brother-in-law Jay Hinkhouse of Ames, as well as all of his great patients and friends.

Rob was preceded in death by his father-in-law James Hinkhouse of Correctionville.
