Ermei Leuang, 86, of Iowa City peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family at the home of her eldest son, on Friday, April 17, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 pm.
Ermei was born in Guangdong, China in 1922. She fled China to Laos and several other countries to escape from communism, all while raising nine children. Ermei and her family arrived in Iowa in 1985, where they were hosted by a local church.
Survivors include her nine children, Yi Ping, Ahua, Mithing, Yi Her, Yi Chang, and Anthia, all of Iowa City; Linda and Teo of Houston, TX and Yi Lan of Wichita, KS; 20 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
