Millicent Noble, 89

Millicent Keil Noble, 89, of Iowa City passed away at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City on April 28, 2009, after a brief illness. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Reverend Jeff Belger will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Church in Iowa City or Catholic Medical Missions.

Millicent was born July 9, 1919, in Williamsburg, Iowa, to Bert L and Katherine Dunn Keil. She attended Williamsburg schools, graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1937, attended biefly, Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids and The University of Iowa. She worked in University Publications at The University of Iowa before marrying Robert Duerdin Noble of Oelwein, Iowa, at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana, in 1943. They lived in California and Iowa City until 1955 before settling in Massapequa, Long Island, NY, for many years. Millicent returned to live in Iowa City in 1979, where she enjoyed the cultural , literary, and sporting events of The University of Iowa and Iowa City, as well as the activities of children and grandchildren.

Millicent is survived by her five children - Millicent (Jeff) Mason of Holderness, NH; William R (My) Noble of Greenville, ME; Robert D (Barbara) Noble of Norwalk, CT; Madeline (Bill) Windauer of Iowa City; and Stephen (Amanda) Noble of Decatur, GA; 12 grandchildren -- Matthew (Jenn) Mason, Nick (Heather) Mason, Katie Mason; Aaron Noble; Jessica Noble, Robert T Noble; Lindsey, Robert W, and Will Windauer; Laine, Stephanie, and Robin Noble; and four great-granddaughters -- Rebecca and Abigail Mason, and Holly and Laurel Mason; one brother-in-law, Jerry Depew of Rolling Hills, CA; three cousins -- Kathleen Jones of Cedar Rapids, IA, Charlotte Mack of Waterloo, IA, and Honore Steimel of Charles City, IA; and 22 nieces, nephews, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, John D Keil, Dr. Philip G Keil, Richard L Keil; and her sister, Rosemary Keil Depew.

Her family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the kind and compassionate staffs at The University of Iowa Hospitals, Oaknoll Retirement Residence, and the Iowa City Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, Iowa City, or to the Catholic Medical Missions Board, 10 West 17th Street, New York, NY 10011-5765.
