Marion Allen, 87

Marion J. Allen, 87, died Friday April 10, 2009 at Mercy Hospital following a lengthy illness. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City is handling the arrangements.

Marion was born in Chicago, IL on October 29, 1921. She attended Francis Shimer in Mount Carroll, IL, received her bachelors degree at Iowa State University, and masters degree at Loyola University in Chicago, IL. For a number of years she worked in the Hotel/ Restaurant business and later taught Home Economics in the Chicago grade schools. In 1987 she moved to Iowa City, IA.

She is survived by her son James Leaven, daughter-in-law Mary Fitzpatrick, grandson Alex Leaven, 2 nieces, 1 nephew, and 9 step nieces and nephews. Marion was preceded in death by her husband Walter Allen.
