Services:Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 10:30am at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City with Rev. Tim Zimmermann of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens.
Visitation:Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 7pm, where a Moose Memorial Service will be held at 7pm. The family requests casual attire. In lieu of flowers, the Larry Beardshear Memorial Fund has been established for the education of his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.

Larry J. “Boogie” Beardshear, 62, of Iowa City died peacefully at home of cancer, Wednesday, January 21, 2009, surrounded by his family.

Larry was born July 3, 1946 in Belle Plaine, IA, the son of Rex and Vada McGrew Beardshear. The family moved from Marengo to Iowa City in 1958, where Larry graduated from City High School. On June 18, 1966 he married Betty Lenoch at Christ the King Church in Iowa City.

Larry was employed at H.J. Heinze company and later Blooming Prairie (United Natural Foods), retiring in December, 2007.

His memberships include the Iowa City Moose Lodge, the Iowa City Eagles, Teamsters Local #238, American Bowling Assn. and the Johnson County I Club. Larry was an avid Hawkeye fan! He liked to camp and travel, but most important in his life was the time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife, Betty and their three children and seven grandchildren, Angie (Steve) Leichty of Williamsburg and their children McKenzie, Jacob and Olivia,
Kim (Brian) Coleman of Washington and their children Trevor, Travis and Tanner,
and Christopher Beardshear of Iowa City and his son, Mason; two siblings, Don (Gwen)
Beardshear of San Diego and Nancy (Howard) Wittenberg of Iowa City; and special friend, Brian Johns.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
