Kathleen Stutzman died Saturday, February 28th after a long illness.

She was born in Honey Brook, PA on March 1, 1930 to Ralph and Elizabeth Troyer Stutzman. Kathleen was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church in Iowa City. Her faith was the bedrock on which she built and lived a simple, quiet life, supported by her church family. Even though Kathleen did not have children of her own, her life’s work was taking care of children. She loved children and she played a role in the up-bringing of many Iowa City children, including her nephew, Nolan Stutzman, who was like a son to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Lela Stutzman, Lila Burkett and Delores Marshall, and two brothers, Max Stutzman and Ralph Stutzman. She is survived by two brothers, Richard Stutzman of Atalissa and Russell Stutzman of Des Moines, and nephews Tom Stutzman, (Richard) Rusty Stutzman (Russell), Nolan and Scott Stutzman (Ralph), Steve Burkett (Lila), and nieces Dawn Heritage (Russell), Patty McNichol (Lila), Beth Stutzman (Ralph), and Connie Bechler (Max).

The family would like to thank Cindy, RN from Mercy Home Health, and Lamona Aman, friend, for their assistance and friendship to Kathleen over the years, which enabled her to remain independent at Capitol House Apartments until the last three months of her life. In addition, thank you to the staff of Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Hospice of Mercy North Liberty for the compassionate care provided to Kathleen during these past two months.
