Services:Friday, 10:00 am at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A general memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.
Visitation:Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Thomas Mike Richerson, 54, of 2100 Scott Blvd in Iowa City, died Tuesday at home of complications from ALS.

Mike was born June 30, 1955 in Colorado Springs, Co, the son of Thomas and Helen Portwood Richerson. He served in the US Army in Germany. On June 16, 1989 Mike married Susan Emerson Rockafellow in Iowa City.

Mike was a well-known Iowa City painter. He owned and operated Rich Design Painting. Prior to that he had been a painter for Frantz, Axiom, H &H Construction Companies and Cullen and J.R. Painting.

Mike liked to listen and dance to rock and roll, build and fly small remote engine planes, learn about the history and artifacts of Egypt and celebrate Halloween. Mike cherished the time spent with family.

Mike is survived by his wife Susan and four children, Micahla (Jerry) Ruan, Andrew
Richerson, and Michael Rockafellow (Mariah Shrock), all of Iowa City and Brandon (Lisa) Richerson of North Liberty; six grandchildren, Evan & Colin Ruan, Aidan Richerson, and Lilly, Trevor & Jasmine Rockafellow; his mother, Helen Richerson of Iowa City; two sisters, Rita Richerson and Dawn (Bob) Stoddard, both of Iowa City; mother-in-law, Reta Emerson of Iowa City and brothers and sisters-in-law, Cathy & Frank Greazel, Rick & Carolyn Emerson, Stephen & Pam Emerson, Kirk & Pam Emerson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Thomas and father-in-law, Paul Emerson and sister, Pamela Kaefring.
