Robert "Bob" G. Barker, 80, of Iowa City died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Mercy Hospital of lung cancer.

Bob was born October 22, 1928 in Iowa City, the son of Forest and Elsie Carlson Barker. He was a graduate of City High School and the University of Iowa. On July 5, 1974 Bob was united in marriage to Carol Slater. They have celebrated 34 years of friendship and marriage.

Bob had a strong work ethic, a brilliant mind and was gifted at math. He owned and operated the Barker Inc. and S&G Materials.

Bob believed in the importance of giving to others, either on a personal level or to a community project. He was never boastful, but preferred these gifts to be kept close to the heart. Bob was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. His legacy has been left for those who follow in his footsteps. He will be greatly missed.

He cherished times spent with family and friends in Grand Cayman or at Hawkeye events.

Bob is survived by his wife Carol and daughter, Sara (David) Raffensperger of Eugene, Oregon and one grandson, Jackson Raffensperger; brother-in-law, John Oehrle of Palm Springs, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Bryan (Mitzie) Tomlinson of Northside, Grand Cayman.
