Vivian Moessner, 74
Vivian Jean (Cerveny) Moessner, 74, of 3005 H Street, Middle Amana, passed from this life peacefully on December 13 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, on December 17 at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements. A wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and cherished friend, Vivian touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Vivian was born April 10, 1934 in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Frank and Lydia (Dubishar) Cerveny. She later moved to Walford with her parents and was a 1951 graduate of Walford High School. She married her husband of 55 years, Reynold Moessner on October 8, 1953 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She had been employed by Souvenir Lead Pencil in Cedar Rapids as a secretary and receptionist and also was briefly employed at Amana Refrigeration, Inc. and the Amana Furniture Shop. In 1966, she earned her Iowa Real Estate License and began her 33-year career as a Realtor, retiring in 1998. In 1974 she was among the first women to be accepted into the Cedar Rapids Board of Realtors. She was well loved by her colleagues and the many customers that she so caringly served during her career.
She enjoyed traveling and particularly cherished the vacations she took with her family and friends in Florida and Aruba during the winter months. Vivian loved music and loved to dance whenever she had the opportunity. She and Reynold were members of the Merimyx Dance Club for several years. Most of all, she had a passion for cooking and entertaining for her family and friends. While she could expertly prepare any and all kinds of foods, her favorite and specialty was the good old-fashioned "bohemie cooking" that she grew up with. Word of her delicious meals spread and she catered several events, receptions, parties and banquets including several for the University of Iowa Theatre Department. She also loved flowers and gardening and sharing laughter and good times with those close to her. With her beautiful smile, sweet spirit and warm heart, Vivian was a loving, caring, understanding and fun person whose generosity knew no bounds.
She is survived by her husband; her daughter, Judith Moessner Lambert and son-in-law Roger Lambert of Solon; her grandson Matthew Moessner and great granddaughter, Liliana Moessner of Iowa City; her brother Virgil Cerveny and his wife Arlene Cerveny of Cedar Rapids, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and son Allen, who passed away in 1995.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the oncologists, doctors, nurses and hospice staff at Mercy Medical Center.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
