Francis Brems, 91

Francis J. Brems, 91, of 519 Teakwood Lane NE, died Saturday evening at his home following a short illness. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 17, at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. David O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. where a vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Military services will be conducted by VFW Post #788. Friends may, if they wish, donate to All Saints Catholic Church or Camp Courageous in memory of Francis.

Francis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Constance, three sons Jim Brems and wife, Deanna of Cedar Rapids, Robert Brems and wife, Colleen of Iowa City and Tom Brems and wife, Pam of Kennesaw, Georgia. Francis is also survived by six grandchildren, Joseph Brems, Michael Brems and wife, Vicki, and Ryan Brems and wife, Carla all of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer Brems of Kennesaw, Georgia and Matthew Brems and Meghan Brems of Iowa City and four great grandchildren, Frank, A.J., Jaxon, Sophia. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George Jr. and two grandchildren, Alex and Ryan Brems.

Francis was born November 30, 1917 in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of George and Teresa (McDevitt) Brems. He attended Loras College before entering the Army Air Force in 1941. He married Constance Wiehl on November 23, 1945 at St. Raphael Catherdral in Dubuque. Francis managed Brems Bakery in Cedar Rapids from 1947 to 1957. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a postal clerk from 1957 till his retirement in 1980. Francis was a long time supporter of Loras College. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the VFW Post #788. Francis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
