Edward P. "Ed" Troughton, 65 of 1526 Esther Street, Iowa City, died at his home Thursday, December 11, 2008, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 15, 2008, at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Ed's memory to St. Mark's United Methodist Church Parish Nurse Program or Iowa City Hospice. Edward Paul Troughton was born November 3, 1943, in Joliet, IL the son of John J. and Marjorie B. (Malcolm) Troughton. Following graduation from Joliet Twsp. High School in 1961, he attended Joliet Junior College for two years, and then came to Iowa City to attend and later graduate from the University of Iowa in 1965. He was united in marriage to Ginger Wenman on October 22, 1977, in Oxford, Iowa. For many years Ed has been in research in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa, having to retire due to his declining health in 2003. He also for over thirty years worked as a tax consultant with Moeller Accounting.
He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, especially enjoying playing on the church softball league for years. Ed coached his children's soccer, softball and baseball teams as they were growing up, he was one of those faithful Chicago Cub fans, he was known to family and friends for his passion for "going down south", but since the birth of his grandchildren, there was little in life more important than them!
His family includes his wife, Ginger; their three children, Lennie Troughton (Lisa) of Coralville; John Troughton (Christa) of Mechanicsville, IA; and Katie Troughton of Grand Junction, CO; five grandchildren, Sammy, Alexandria, Averi, James, and Kaylea; brothers and sisters, Tom Troughton (Cheryl) of Jefferson City, MO, John Troughton (Kathy) Joliet, IL, Margie Clark of Casa Grande, AZ, and Annie Troughton of Mesa, AZ; father-in-law, James Wenman (Sally) of Coralville; and brother-in-law, Jim Wenman (Laura) and their family of West Des Moines, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Billy; mother-in-law, Ginny and nephew Ricky Troughton.
