Iowa City Press Citizen December 19, 1972 p. 2 Agnes M. Connell, 85, of 420 South Van Buren Street, died Monday night at a local care center following a long illness. She was the mother of Iowa City Councilman Robert J. Connell. Funeral services are set for 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Church, with burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beekman-Butherus Funeral Home, where friends may call after 3 p.m. today. Mrs. Connell was born near Costrove May 23, 1887 to Mathias and Elizabeth Hazen Stockman. She attended St. Agatha's Academy in Iowa City and was married in June, 1910 to Thomas O. Connell. Mr. Connell was a longtime plumbing and heating contractor in Iowa City. Survivors include four other sons, Joseph J. and William D. both of Iowa City; Thomas M. of Mission, Tex.; and James F. of Clear Lake; a daughter Mrs. Carol (Marie) Johnson of Clinton; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
