Fred Kessler Dies Suddenly
Fred B. Kessler, 70, or 510 East Burlington Street, died at his home Wednesday night after suffering a heart attack.
Mr. Kessler was born in Johnson County, July 11, 1889, the son of Louis and Dora Schley Kessler. He was married to May Fuhrmeister, February 12, 1913, at Cedar Rapids.
He farmed in Newport Township and near Hills until retiring in 1924. Mr. Kessler was associated with the Yellow Cab Co. for several years and for the past 13 years had been in the restaurant business with his son, Donald.
Survivors include his widow; a son, Donald, of Iowa City; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Potter, of Coralville; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Francis, of Iowa City, and Doran, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Strub, of Iowa City, and Mrs. Joseph Buchmayer, of Newport Township, and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Buford, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lowell A. Koch officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The McGovern funeral home is in charge of arrangements
