Henrietta June Bender, 73 of Kalona, died Friday, January 24, 2003 at Mercy Hospital after a short illness.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at West Union Mennonite Church in Wellman with the Rev. David Boshart officiating. Burial will be at the West Union Cemetery.

Visitation will start at 7 a.m. Sunday, with family present from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Memorials may be sent to West Union Mennonite Church.

Mrs. Bender was born June 27, 1929 to Henry and Amy (Marner) Hochstetler. She attended Prairie Dale Iowa Mennonite School. She married Dwight Bender on June 27, 1948. She worked for 20 years as a waitress at Williamsburg’s Landmark Restaurant.

Survivors include her husband; four children, Julia Bender of San Francisco, Gloria Widmer of Washington, Donavan Bender of Wellman, and Beth Bender of Chicago; one brother (her twin), Henry Hostetler; and one sister, Joann Hershberger of Bonita Springs, FL; and four grandchildren.

Her parents and one sister-in-law, Lois Hostetler, died earlier.
