Ruth I. Shuler formerly of Iowa City passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at the Solon Nursing Care Center in Solon, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Ruth was born August 2, 1914, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Pearl Amelon. She grew up and attended school in Frytown, Iowa. On November 15, 1934, she married Erle Shuler in Chicago, Illinois. They moved to Michigan where they farmed. They returned to Iowa City in 1949. Ruth worked for the University of Iowa at Currier and Burge Hall and the Law Commons as a cook, retiring in 1965. She lived in Florida for several years, and then returned to Iowa City. Here she was a member of the Church of Christ.
Her family includes two daughters, Janice Gales of Ankeny, IA and Sandra Vermace of Solon, IA; four grandchildren, Deborah Ockenfels, Patricia Goodwin, Michael Gales, and Amy Hoffman; five great-grandchildren, Daniel and Kristin Ockenfels, Kelly and Michael Goodwin, and Samantha Delaney; and one great-great grandson, Jackson Goodwin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erle; two sisters, Helena Eckrich and Evelyn Saylor; two brothers, Earl and Leo Amelon; and son-in-laws, William Gales and Jim Vermace.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Ruth's family and her services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Solon Nursing Care Center.
