James Dean Garlow, 74, of 1822 Flatiron Ave, Iowa City, formerly of Dubuque, past away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Jim's name to Iowa City Hospice or the American Legion. James Dean Garlow the son of Dean and Margaret Garlow was born March 11, 1934 in Manchester, IA. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1957. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was in the Army for a total of nine years. He married Marjorie E. they were married in 1987 in Nashua, IA at the Little Brown Church. James worked for Evergreen Packaging (formerly Cherry-Burrell) for 30 years.

Jim was a member of the American Legion Post #17. He had many hobbies including woodworking to fishing and gardening, mushroom hunting

His family includes his wife Marjorie E. of Iowa City; three sons Lynn Garlow-Scott (Margaret) of Scottsdale, AZ, Clay Garlow of Independence, Ashley Garlow (April) of Marion; daughter Gayla Garlow of CA; three step-daughters Christine Schomberg of Iowa City, Sherri Schomberg (Michael) of Iowa City, Lori Schomberg of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Dustin (Calla), Nathan, Cameo, Amber, Janae, Jake, Autumn, Emma Jean; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters Linda Hirsch and Judy Schiessel of Dubuque.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law.
